"I knew I needed formal training in interior design, but wasn't able to complete an on-campus program due to work and family restraints," says Katie Bromley about her choice to apply to a RISD Continuing Education online certificate program. "The Residential Interior Design program allowed me the opportunity to gain a certificate through online courses taken at my own pace."
She values the connection with other students, watching their growth and accomplishments over the course of the program. "Although the courses were fully virtual, names and faces became familiar," she says. "By the end, it was like a virtual design family that I was sad to say goodbye to!"
"My family (including three children under 18) was excited for me to take on the challenge. Juggling my new interior design business (est. 2023) and my course work (beginning Aug 2022) was complicated and stressful at times, but I knew the outcome would be worth it…and it was! The best outcome was that I was able to align both what I was working on in business and what course work I was doing, to achieve two benefits at the same time."
Katie's message to prospective certificate students is "Do it! Start now! If you need to break for a session, you can. Also, you don't have to know at the beginning of the course work where it will lead you. The journey will reveal your leading interests."
