Friends, family members and instructors gathered in the RISD Auditorium the evening of June 4 to celebrate the accomplishments of students receiving certificates for completion of studies in RISD Continuing Education certificate programs.

At this year’s ceremony and reception, 64 students received certificates in ten RISD|CE programs:

  • Animation
  • Children’s Book Illustration
  • Graphic Design
  • Interactive Design
  • Interior Design
  • Jewelry + Light Metals
  • Natural Science Illustration
  • Painting Studies
  • Photography
  • Product Development + Manufacturing

Executive Director of Continuing Education Sarah Caggiano welcomed the students who now “carry the passport to their own happiness,” some who enrolled for personal development, and others for new professional opportunities. In her address, President Rosanne Somerson 76 ID recognized the commitment of graduates and their families, and reflected on the importance of CE to RISD.

Jorge Paricio Garcia was presented with the 2019 Teacher of Excellence Award. He has taught at RISD in the Industrial Design department for more than a decade, and more recently for RISD|CE; and is known for bringing his professional practice and relevant expertise into the classroom. Paricio Garcia was recognized for creating meaningful, transformative experiences and growth for each of his students.

Certificate graduate speaker Rina Naik—a graduate of RISD|CE’s Drawing + Painting Studies certificate program—is a seasoned multidisciplinary professional, connecting the worlds of interior design, fine arts and teaching. She encouraged this year’s graduates to do things that bring them joy, to make time for self-reflection and to find their creative community. “Celebrate your achievements, your passion for creativity whatever form it takes. Feel it in your bones. It’s not easy but it’s so worth it! Let’s continue our journey!”

Congratulations, Graduates!

RISD Continuing Education offers certificate programs that address specific training needs of adult students, many of whom have college and professional experience but want to upgrade their skills or make a career change.
