Students must be 18 or older to enroll in RISD|CE Adult courses. Young Artist courses are offered for children and teens ages 6-17.
The online registration system will generate a confirmation notice once your registration is completed. A registration statement, including class location, pin code (required for some building and classroom access) and a list of special materials needed for the first class (if any) is sent via email prior to the first class.
The class location is listed on your registration statement, along with a link to the campus map, which is emailed to you prior to the first class. You may also receive a supply list from your instructor during your first class.
A list of special materials needed for the first class (if any) is included in your registration statement, which is emailed to you prior to the first class meeting. You may also receive a supply list from your instructor during your first class.
Once a spot becomes available, students on the wait list are called and/or emailed in the order that they appear on the wait list. You are given the option to register for the course or decline the space at that time.
If you enroll in a course that is canceled, you are notified and given the option of substituting another course or receiving a full refund. For this reason, it is extremely important that we have your correct telephone numbers and email addresses. Additionally, in the case of these circumstances, please note that RISD|CE is not responsible for supplies purchased prior to the start of classes or other expenses (such as travel or lodging) that may be incurred in advance. Refunds take two to four weeks to process and take the form of the original payment method for the cancelled course.
In this circumstance, you can call the RISD|CE office at 401 454-6200 to register your dependent by phone.
You may add a course online, or in person (or by mail or fax if tuition/fees are being paid by a third party) any time prior to the start of the course, as long as space is available. Courses meeting for 18 or more hours can be added up until the second class meeting by contacting an Enrollment Assistant at 401 454-6200. Tuition is not prorated for any missed classes.
Failure to properly withdraw from a course results in a permanent grade of “F” on your record and the loss of any potential refund. Withdrawals from courses must be received in writing at the CE office by the stated deadline.
Withdrawals should be addressed to:
Associate Director for CE Enrollment + Operations
RISD|CE now uses Parchment to process transcript requests. You may order paper transcripts or e-transcripts with this service. To order official transcripts, please visit the Parchment Transcript Request page.
Students who are not in a certificate program may request their grades (unofficial transcript) by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or fax their written request to 401-454-6218; or visit the CE office (with a photo ID) to request their grades in person. All requests require the student’s signature.
Tuition discounts are available to senior citizens (ages 65+), Adult Continuing Education Certificate Graduates, RISD alumni, RISD matriculated students and RISD Museum members. The online registration system will automatically apply the discount to eligible registrants. The discount will not apply to special costs such as transportation, admittance fees, and so forth. Discounts are not transferable to family members. Also, these discounts apply only once; that is, if a senior citizen is also an alumnus, the discount is still 10 percent. These discounts apply to the current semester only and are not retroactive. The discount does not apply to special fees.
RISD|CE gift cards are available in any denomination. Please call 401 454-6200, or stop in to the CE Office for more information or to purchase a gift card.
